    SCIA Holds Arbitration Seminar in Kazakhstan

    The seminar on "Latest Developments in Sino-Kazakh International Commercial Arbitration" co-organized by the Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration (SCIA), the Kazakhstan Lawyers Association, and the Xinjiang Lawyers Association was held at the Kazakhstan National University in Almaty, Kazakhstan on September 6, 2024.

    Lyu Anqi, commercial counselor at the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Almaty, An Xin, vice president of SCIA and director of theSCIA Kashi Center, Zhumageldy Yelyubayev, chairman of the Kazakhstan Lawyers Association, Geng Baojian, president of the Xinjiang Lawyers Association and Xue Bin, vice president of ZTE Corporation, delivered speeches at the seminar.

    In the first session of the seminar, Alexander Korobeinikov, SCIA arbitrator and partner at Baker & McKenzie - CIS Limited, Farukh Iminov, member of the Kazakhstan Lawyers Association and lawyer at Kinstellar LLP and Li Shan, director and managing partner of the Zhong Lun Law Firm’s office at Almaty, spoke on the framework and current trends of arbitration in Kazakhstan.

    The second session featured speeches by Xu Jianjun, SCIA arbitrator and founder of Beijing Xu’s Law Firm,Murali Adin, a lawyer at the Urumqi Branch of AllBright Law Offices and Peng Yanbing, deputy legal counsel at SCIA on the latest developments in arbitration and dispute resolution in China. 

    More than 30 guests, including senior lawyers, representatives from enterprises, and industry experts from China and Kazakhstan, attended the seminar.

    During their visit to Almaty, the SCIA delegation also visited institutions such as the International Arbitration Court of Kazakhstan (IUS), the Kazakhstan Lawyers Association, the Kazakhstan Branch of the Sinopec International Exploration and Production Corporation, and the Almaty Branch of the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, to discuss international arbitration cooperation and development between China and Kazakhstan. They also encouraged enterprises from both countries to protect their legitimate rights through international arbitration.
